The Mayflower Project offers spaces and activities for teenagers at events and festivals across the country. We've been doing this for many years (check out our 'events' page for the festivals we've previously been a part of) and teenagers, parents, festival organisers, ticket holders and crew alike seem to enjoy what we do.
We aim for a chilled out 'living room' vibe in The Mayflower Marquee, beautifully decorated and filled with sofas, cushions and blankets for maximum comfort. This is exclusively for teenagers to hang out, make new friends, meet up with old ones, play some pool or strum away on our guitars and ukuleles. When teenagers come in on their own our fully trained and DBS checked crew are on hand to make them feel welcome, involve them in activities and integrate them into the wider group. Our res en detre is to make sure that no teenager sits alone in our marquee if they don't want to, and we're really rather good at it!
If anyone wants a bit more stimulation or excitement we've got that covered too. We offer a full programme of workshops ranging from jam sessions and an open mic (we bring a full band rig, drum kit, keyboard, recording desk, PA system, you get the idea!), to craft workshops focusing on upcycling, to circus skills and loads more. The teenagers are welcome to join in with as much or as little as they like and while we try to get them involved in the workshops there's no pressure - it's their space and if they just want to chill and do their own thing that's absolutely fine.
We know that every festival is different, with a different vibe, different objectives and different constraints. As such we offer a fully flexible service. First of all we have three differently sized marquees available (5x8m, 20x40' and 30x40'). We can also open for anything from six hours per day to 12 hours per day as required.
That leads me to our fees. To make sure we maximise engagement everything is offered for free to the teenagers. As such we charge a fee to the events we attend and as a not for profit organisation everything we earn is re-invested into the Project. Our fees are largely determined by the opening hours offered and we have packages to suit any budget.
Finally, the boring bit. As well as providing a beautiful, relaxing space with exciting workshops and interesting activities, we know it's important that all the relevant documentation and paperwork is in place. As such all of our crew are DBS checked, we have all the necessary insurances covering not just the activities but the marquees as well, and a full set of policies, procedures and risk assessments covering every part of what we do.
